How Kingdom Channels Workers Are Supported

This page explains our financial policies as they relate to worker support. This page will cover salaried field workers, workers in stateside support roles, workers in training, and short-term field volunteers.

Kingdom Channels invites you to help sponsor workers. You can do so by entering their name in this donation form or by writing “[Worker Name] Sponsorship” on your check.

Salaried Field Workers & Workers in Stateside Support Roles

For salaried field workers and for support workers stateside we set a support budget based on the direct costs for them to serve with Kingdom Channels. This includes salary or wages and related employment costs (cost of compensation.) For salaried field workers it also includes some personal expense like housing that are paid through the organization, as well as travel to and from the field and an amount that is set aside for reentry support. The reentry support amount is 5% of the total support budget and is paid when the worker returns from the field.

While workers will share the opportunity to contribute toward their support with friends, family, and church, they are not required to raise their own support or to have all their costs sponsored in order to serve with Kingdom Channels. We do not base a worker’s salary on the amount of sponsorship money they receive. Nor do we decide what expenses to cover based on sponsorships received. Rather, we first use our general policies to set the salary rate and to determine how expenses are handled. This enables us to set a support budget, that reflects the direct cost of them serving with the organization. Monthly support budgets are set annually. The support budget will not be changed mid-year unless there is a significant change in a worker’s role or involvement.

We believe it is very valuable for home communities to financially support those they send. We also recognize that communities use different models for mission support and have varying levels of resources. Workers support budgets are covered in the following ways:

  1. Funds given specifically to sponsor them

  2. Funds given to the Worker Support fund which can be used for any worker

  3. Funds given to support the worker’s program or funds given to be used “Where Needed Most”

Ideally, the direct costs for workers would be covered through the first two methods. Contact us at any time for a current list of workers and sponsorship opportunities or give to the Worker Support Fund here.

If sponsorships for a particular worker exceed their support budget, the additional funds will support their work or program in other ways. Workers are also encouraged to share other giving opportunities with their financial partners.

Short-term Field Volunteers

Short-term field volunteers will be assigned a specific sponsorship amount that needs to be covered in order for them to serve. Part or all of this amount needs to be received before they begin service. We define short-term as anyone with less than a two-year commitment. Anyone with less than a two-year commitment, or who does not complete the normal training requirements for their location, will serve on a volunteer rather than salaried basis. Short term opportunities may be as short as a few weeks.

Workers in Training

We also offer the opportunity to contribute toward preparation expenses for workers in training who are committed to serving a minimum of two years on the field with Kingdom Channels and are pursuing an approved preparation track. Preparation expenses need to be paid personally by the worker or covered with funds that are given specifically for training and worker preparation. In the event that sponsorships exceed their training expenses, the remainder will be used to support their future work. In the event that a worker in training needs to withdraw from their preparation plan any unused funds will be used for the work they were preparing for or to prepare other workers. Contact us at any time for a current list of workers in training and sponsorship opportunities.
